Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you have one or more missing teeth, there’s an excellent chance you qualify for dental implants in IL, NJ, & MI. While we look for people in generally good health, you don’t have to be perfect.

Our team of experienced dentists at Atlas Implant Dentistry can often work around issues like bone loss or gum disease with advanced and comfortable preliminary procedures to ensure your mouth is healthy.  If you want a lasting solution that feels and functions like real teeth, we’ll do everything we can to make that possible.

Let’s find out if you’re among our many dental implant candidates today!

What We Look for in Ideal Dental Implant Candidates

Ideal dental implant candidates have healthy gums, but gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Fortunately, there is a solution to this apparent catch-22. Our team can help get active gum disease under control before placing your dental implants, minimizing the risk of infection or implant failure. That’s why the first step in your dental implant process is a complete oral health exam, including a comprehensive gum health evaluation.

Dental implants get their superior strength and stability from their connection to the jawbone. If you’ve been missing teeth for a while or have a gum disease history, you may not have enough healthy bone volume to support an implant post.

However, depending on your specific situation, we may be able to rebuild lost bone with grafts or consider alternative placement options.

Certain health conditions, like uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune issues, can affect how your body heals after surgery. That doesn’t always mean people with systemic health issues are not dental implant candidates. We may need to work with your medical doctor to keep you safe.

To be a strong candidate for dental implants, your body needs to be healthy enough to tolerate surgery and heal properly after your procedure. This includes avoiding tobacco and managing any major health concerns. Our team will review your medical history and current medications to ensure the process is right for you. Your safety and comfort always come first!
